What am I looking at?

Six forecasts of the same weather, drawn on the same frames and the same colour scales so they can be read against one another. MSM is the Japan Meteorological Agency's mesoscale model, whose 5 km domain takes in the whole peninsula and its seas, eight runs a day. GSM is JMA's global model on its 10 km regional window, carrying the forecast on to eleven days after MSM stops. ECMWF HRES is the outside benchmark. Coastal Waves resolves the sea state at 5 km on the Yellow Sea, the Korea Strait and the East Sea. GSM Global and Global Waves are drawn on the western North Pacific, because that is where a typhoon is three days before it reaches Korea.

Switching model holds the valid time, not the forecast hour. MSM runs eight times a day and HRES four, so +12 h on one is almost never +12 h on the other; flipping between them shows a real disagreement between two forecasts of the same instant. The axes differ too — MSM is hourly, the global model six-hourly — and the timeline redraws itself for whichever model is open.

Why not KMA's models? The Korea Meteorological Administration publishes KIM, LDAPS and RDAPS through its API Hub, behind a registered key and a quota, not as open files a site may redistribute. The models here are the open ones whose grids cover the peninsula whole, rendered by Forecast Japan and shared across the network. Every number on the map — the city values and the readout under the pointer — is read back out of the frame itself.

Colour ramps are pinned to absolute values, so a loop shows real intensity changes rather than a palette re-fitting itself each frame. The default tables are JMA's ladder — the about page says which are the agency's published legends — and every other table in the network's collection is one click away. Temperatures are Celsius and winds metres per second, as Korean forecasts state them; times are Korea Standard Time. For warnings, the Korea Meteorological Administration is always the authority.
